In 1992, RPG Maker Dante 98 was released as a tool to allow people to develop their own

Corpse Party is a horror adventure visual novel made with RPG Maker Dante 98.
The game was created by 22-year-old college student Makoto Kedouin in 1996.
On February 26th, Kedouin placed second in the Second Annual ASCII Entertainment Competition, winning 5 million yen. Twelve years later, Corpse Party would be remade and released commercially on various platforms.

Corpse Party has garnered a dedicated fanbase yearning for more content.
As the game had not seen an official release for twelve years, fans took
it upon themselves to keep the game alive.
Dedicated fans have ported the
game from the outdated Japan-exclusive NEC PC-9801 architecture to modern
Windows systems, even providing an English translation.
Nine years into the twelve-year hiatus, fans developed
Corpse Party Zero, a fan-made prequel to the game.
